What Resize IMAGE does

Resize IMAGE changes an image's pixel dimensions, by exact width and height or by percentage, with an optional aspect-ratio lock so nothing stretches. Large downscales use progressive halving, which avoids the aliased, shimmering edges a single-step resize produces.

Questions

Do I need to keep the aspect ratio?

The lock is on by default. Turn it off when you deliberately want to stretch or squash to an exact size.

Can I enlarge an image?

Yes, though enlarging cannot invent detail. The tool warns rather than silently producing a blurry result that looks uncropped.

Does resizing hurt quality?

Downscaling is lossless in the sense that it uses a high-quality filter; upscaling inevitably softens.
